Facilities

The different departments associated with the SPACE Institute maintain various laboratory facilities. These can be used by non-UCLA external scientists on a fee-basis, after establishing a collaborative agreement with the Principal Investigator of the laboratory. Typical commercial rates are $1500/hour. The laboratory facilities are listed below. Please send an inquiry if you have detailed questions about the capabilities and we’ll get back to you.

Thermal Vacuum Test Chamber (TVAC) for cubesat spacecraft buses (maximum payload of 10 x 10 x 20 inches).

Sapphire Lab CC-MC-ICP-MS for high precision stable isotope analyses of metal elements, such as Fe, Cu, Mg, and K.

Experimental Petrology Lab for simulations of high Pressure/Temperature conditions with a 150 ton press.

Panorama Laboratory for ultra high resolution multi-collector mass spectrometer, tuned for oxygen, methane and nitrogen isotopes.

Basic Plasma Science Facility

UCLA/NSF SIMS Laboratory for in-situ U-Th-Pb dating and stable isotope analysis.

Magnetic Field Testing Facility: Mu-metal alloy and 3-axis Helmholtz coil system for testing and calibration of fluxgate, quantum, search coil and hybrid magnetometers, over a temperature range.

We can also support Helium/Nitrogen fills for your equipment with Argon fills forthcoming.
